Taking a stern view of the slow progress of rural sanitation projects, Deputy Commissioner Saurabh Kumar Bhuvania on Thursday directed officials to expedite the implementation of scientific solid and liquid waste management systems across the district, stressing that effective waste disposal remains one of the administration’s top priorities.
Chairing a video conferencing meeting to review sanitation arrangements in rural areas, the Deputy Commissioner conducted a comprehensive assessment of the cleanliness initiatives underway in all blocks and gram panchayats. The meeting focused on strengthening the scientific collection, segregation and disposal of solid and liquid waste to ensure cleaner and healthier villages.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the sluggish pace of waste management schemes at the block and panchayat levels, Bhuvania instructed officials to accelerate ongoing works and ensure timely execution of all projects. He emphasized that delays in implementing the schemes would not be tolerated.
Highlighting the importance of community participation, the Deputy Commissioner said villages cannot achieve complete cleanliness without active public involvement in waste management. He directed officials to launch extensive awareness campaigns across gram panchayats to educate residents about the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, encouraging households to segregate waste at the source for effective scientific disposal.
Bhuvania also stressed the need for better coordination among government departments, block officials and panchayat representatives to ensure the successful implementation of sanitation initiatives. He instructed officers to conduct regular field inspections to monitor progress and ensure accountability at every level.
Warning against negligence, the Deputy Commissioner said all officials must remain proactive in implementing the schemes and maintaining the momentum of rural cleanliness drives.
The meeting was attended virtually by Deputy Development Commissioner Piyush Sinha, Municipal Commissioner Sulochana Meena, the District Planning Officer, the Executive Engineer of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Division, senior district officials, all Block Development Officers, Circle Officers, the Assistant Public Relations Officer, the City Manager, officers of the concerned departments and development partners.
