Dumka Deputy Commissioner Abhijit Sinha carried out an extensive on-site review of the district blood bank on Friday to evaluate its storage infrastructure, inventory status, and distribution procedures. Stressing the critical nature of emergency medical response, the DC instructed the administrative and medical staff to guarantee that critical patients secure required blood units without facing procedural roadblocks or shortages.
To avert potential supply deficits, Sinha directed the health department to institutionalize regular donation drives and mobilize community participation. He called for forging active collaborations with local educational institutions, NCC units, and civil society organizations to transform voluntary blood donation into a sustained mass campaign across the district.
A key operational decision taken during the inspection was the proposed relocation of the blood bank. The DC instructed the Civil Surgeon to initiate the preparatory paperwork and logistics required to shift the facility to the Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital (PJMCH) campus in Dighi, ensuring higher-tier integration with hospital services without service disruption.
Quality control and patient safety remained a focal point of the visit. Sinha mandated strict compliance with testing protocols for every collected unit, warning against any compromise in safety benchmarks. He also ordered the mandatory provision of ice packs with every dispatched blood unit to maintain cold-chain integrity during transit, alongside instructing officials to immediately repair an out-of-order refrigeration unit to safeguard existing reserves. He concluded the visit by demanding full operational transparency and updated digital record management for public visibility.
