In a major boost to scientific education and tourism in Jharkhand’s sub-capital, the Dumka Planetarium is nearing completion and is set to become a landmark facility for the Santhal Pargana region. Located near the Dumka Engineering College campus, the state-of-the-art planetarium aims to promote scientific awareness and academic excellence, especially among students.
Dumka Deputy Commissioner Abhijit Sinha recently inspected the project site along with technical and administrative officials to review the progress of construction. During the inspection, it was revealed that the main structure and the specialized dome have been largely completed. The Deputy Commissioner directed the executing agencies to expedite the remaining works and ensure their completion within a fixed timeline so that the facility can be made operational at the earliest.
Equipped with modern digital projection technology, the planetarium will offer immersive displays of planetary movements, stars, constellations and other celestial phenomena on a hemispherical dome, bringing advanced astronomical experiences closer to the people of the region.
Emphasizing the significance of the project, Sinha said the planetarium is not merely a tourist attraction but an important center for promoting scientific temperament and curiosity. The facility is expected to help bridge educational gaps and inspire young minds to explore astronomy and science. Once inaugurated, the Dumka Planetarium is expected to provide the district with a distinct identity and contribute to its educational, cultural and regional development.
