The East Singhbhum district administration has issued a public advisory after a fake Facebook profile was created using the name and photograph of District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Ranjan.
According to the administration, the fake account, operating under the name ‘Dc Rajiv Ranjan’, has reportedly been sending friend requests and messages to members of the public, raising concerns over possible cyber fraud.
The district administration clarified that the Deputy Commissioner does not send friend requests or seek financial assistance, funds, personal information or banking details from citizens through any personal Facebook account.
Residents have been advised not to trust any such messages, calls or requests and to refrain from sharing personal or financial information with unknown social media profiles.
Citizens receiving friend requests or messages from the fake profile have been urged to ignore them and report the account to Facebook immediately.
In case of any suspected cyber fraud or misuse, people have been asked to contact the nearest police station or cyber police station without delay.
Officials said necessary action has already been initiated in connection with the fake profile. The district administration also appealed to citizens to remain cautious while using social media and to verify the authenticity of online profiles before responding to any requests.
The administration reiterated that public awareness and timely reporting are key to preventing cyber fraud and protecting citizens from online scams.
