Pakur Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Megha Bhardwaj on Tuesday directed officials to ensure transparency, impartiality and seriousness while carrying out the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Bhardwaj issued the directions while chairing a review meeting at the Hiranpur block office. AEROs, BLO supervisors and computer operators attended the meeting, where the second phase of hearings, unmapped voters and discrepancy cases were reviewed.
The DC directed officials to verify documents carefully and conduct hearings strictly according to Election Commission guidelines. BLO supervisors were asked to coordinate with BLOs and prepare booth-wise lists of unmapped and discrepancy cases.
Officials were instructed to personally contact concerned voters and inform them about the hearing date, venue and required documents. Voters should be encouraged to appear at designated hearing centres with the necessary documents.
Bhardwaj stressed that officials must be familiar with the 11 valid documents prescribed by the Election Commission of India. Cases found correct after verification should be disposed of at the hearing itself, while doubtful or incomplete cases should be processed according to the prescribed procedure.
She directed officials to classify cases into three categories — those resolved after document verification, cases involving discrepancies or doubts, and cases where voters remain absent or fail to submit required documents. Separate records of all categories must be maintained.
The DC also stressed the need for proper maintenance of both online and offline records and adequate arrangements at hearing centres.
She said SIR is a sensitive electoral exercise aimed at ensuring that every eligible citizen is included in the voter list while preventing the inclusion of ineligible persons. She warned that negligence would not be tolerated.
