Federation seeks swift justice for 1984 Sikh riot victims

The All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) on Monday felicitated former Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta and Jharkhand State Minorities Commission Vice-Chairman Jyoti Singh Matharu for their contributions to public service. The felicitation ceremony was held at the Sakchi office of Satnam Singh Gambhir, President (Eastern India) of the federation.

During the programme, Satnam Singh Gambhir and former Central Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee President Gurmukh Singh Mukhe presented shawls to the two dignitaries as a mark of respect and appreciation.

The meeting also focused on the long-pending demand for justice for families affected by the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Gambhir urged Jyoti Singh Matharu to meet Gautam Chaudhary, who heads the commission examining matters related to the 1984 riots, and request him to expedite the process of delivering justice to the affected families.

Former Central Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee President Gurmukh Singh Mukhe appealed to Banna Gupta to raise the issue with Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and seek the state government’s support in ensuring that the affected families receive timely justice.

The federation members emphasized that many riot-affected families have been waiting for justice for decades and stressed the need for expeditious action on pending cases and rehabilitation-related matters. They expressed hope that the concerned authorities would take necessary steps to accelerate the process and address the grievances of the victims.

Both Banna Gupta and Jyoti Singh Matharu acknowledged the concerns raised during the meeting and assured the delegation that the matter would be conveyed to the appropriate authorities for consideration.
