Political debate over the demand for a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in Jharkhand’s recruitment examinations has intensified, with Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore urging protesting students to have faith in the state’s investigating agencies.
Reacting to the ongoing agitation by students seeking a CBI investigation, Kishore questioned the need for state investigative agencies if every case was to be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
“If every matter has to be investigated by the CBI, what is the need for agencies such as the Jharkhand CID and Special Branch?” the minister asked.
He said the state has its own investigative agencies equipped to conduct inquiries into such matters and that they should be given an opportunity to complete their investigations.
Kishore appealed to the protesting students not to act in haste and to exercise patience while the investigation proceeds. He maintained that the state’s agencies should be allowed to carry out their responsibilities before any further decision is taken on transferring the investigation to a central agency.
The minister’s remarks come at a time when student groups protesting alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC recruitment examinations have been demanding a CBI probe and stronger safeguards to ensure transparency and prevent paper leaks in future examinations.
