The eighth day of the Information and Public Relations Department’s (IPRD) cultural outreach programme at the historic Jagannathpur Rath Mela witnessed a vibrant blend of Jharkhand’s folk traditions and public awareness campaigns, drawing enthusiastic participation from visitors.
Organised by the Jharkhand government since July 16, the programme showcased performances by registered cultural troupes highlighting the state’s rich artistic heritage while spreading awareness about various government welfare schemes and key social issues.
The evening began with a devotional invocation to Lord Jagannath by Sudama Singh of Khukhuragarh Sanskritik Kala Kendra, followed by captivating performances of Mardani Jhumar and Nagpuri folk songs and dances.
Padma Shri awardee Madhu Mansuri Hansmukh, who attended the event, lauded the initiative, saying the state government and the IPRD were making commendable efforts to preserve Jharkhand’s folk art and culture while providing local artists with a platform to showcase their talent. He also appreciated the department for effectively using cultural programmes to disseminate public welfare messages.
Artists from the Performing Art Centre, led by Neetu Devi, presented Nagpuri songs and dances interwoven with awareness campaigns on government welfare initiatives. Another troupe from Hira Nagpur Sanskritik Kala Kendra, led by Ratan Lohra, staged Nagpuri cultural performances along with a street play promoting drug de-addiction, which received an enthusiastic response from the audience.
Officials said the cultural campaign has emerged as an effective medium for promoting both folk traditions and public communication. The programme will continue on July 24 with performances featuring Oraon and Nagpuri folk dances and will conclude on July 25 during the Ghurti Rath Mela celebrations.
