The Garhwa district administration has decided to step up its campaign against illegal mining, transportation and storage of minerals by strengthening surveillance and enforcement across the district.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the district-level task force chaired by Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Pashupati Nath Mishra at the Collectorate. Reviewing the existing situation, the Deputy Commissioner sought updates from administrative and police officials on monitoring mechanisms and action taken against illegal mining activities.
Mr. Mishra directed officials to maintain strict vigil in their respective jurisdictions and conduct regular raids to curb illegal mining and transportation. He made it clear that such activities would not be tolerated and instructed authorities to initiate stringent legal action against violators.
Special emphasis was laid on intensifying enforcement in Dhurki, Bishunpur, Ketar and Kharaundhi blocks under the Sri Banshidhar Nagar subdivision, where cases of illegal mining have been reported. He also stressed close coordination between the civil administration and police to ensure sustained action.
District Mining Officer Rajendra Oraon said complaints had declined during the period when restrictions under National Green Tribunal directions were in force. However, he said the department continues to act promptly on complaints received in accordance with the law.
Senior district officials, including police, forest, transport and revenue officers, attended the meeting, while others joined through videoconferencing.
