Hazaribagh police solve Dental College Supervisor’s murder; colleague arrested

Hazaribagh police have solved the murder of Dental College supervisor Vikas Kumar Singh, arresting his colleague Pawan Kumar Das, who allegedly killed him over a love triangle.

Addressing a press conference, Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Roopak Kumar Singh said the accused was arrested following a scientific investigation and analysis of technical evidence after a murder case was registered at Muffasil Police Station on July 19, 2026. A special investigation team was constituted under his supervision to probe the case.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed that both he and the deceased were in a relationship with the same woman, who is employed at the medical college hospital. According to police, the rivalry prompted Pawan Kumar Das to eliminate Vikas Kumar Singh.

Police said that on the night of July 18, the accused allegedly made the victim consume excessive alcohol. After Vikas became heavily intoxicated and fell to the ground, the accused allegedly suffocated him by pressing his face into the ground and assaulted him with kicks and punches, leading to his death.

Investigators also revealed that both the accused and the deceased worked at the same medical college, while the woman at the centre of the alleged dispute was also employed there.

Police said further investigation is underway, and the accused has been taken into judicial custody following his arrest.
