Suddenly changed weather in Ranchi on Saturday morning directly impacted air services. Due to poor visibility and bad weather, all flights to Ranchi were diverted to Kolkata as a precaution.
The flight of Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, who was traveling to Ranchi, was also diverted to Kolkata for security reasons, causing significant inconvenience to passengers. Dark clouds covered the Ranchi skies early Saturday morning, and heavy rain began. This sudden change in weather and dense clouds made landing conditions unfavourable, forcing ATC to divert flights.
The inclement weather has also affected VIP flights. Minister of State for Defense Sanjay Seth’s flight to Ranchi was also denied landing permission at Ranchi airport due to the inclement weather. Due to security concerns, his flight, like other commercial flights, was diverted to Kolkata.
Heavy rain fell in Jharkhand early this morning, bringing some relief from the heat. The Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for heavy thunderstorms, rain, and lightning in 13 districts, including the capital Ranchi, on Saturday, and a yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning across the state on Sunday.
This change in weather is due to the influence of a cyclonic circulation. According to the Meteorological Department, winds will blow at speeds of up to 60 km per hour in these districts. Last Friday, various districts across the state also experienced early morning rain, leading to a drop in temperatures.
Due to the rain, the temperature in the capital Ranchi dropped by 8.6 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours, while the temperature in Medininagar dropped by 6.5 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature in Jamshedpur dropped by 4 degrees Celsius, and in Chaibasa by 3.4 degrees Celsius
