Government and party have crossed all limits of political repression

BJP State Chief Spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo, addressing a press briefing at the party office, said that the Hemant Soren government in Jharkhand and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha are increasingly following the model of the Nazi Party. Just as the Nazi regime resorted to false cases, police action and restrictions to suppress democratic voices, the Jharkhand government and the JMM are now adopting similar tactics to silence dissent.

Pratul said that reports of citizens being required to seek permission before holding protests and even facing police verification for expressing their views or engaging with content on social media are extremely serious. The government must clarify whether citizens in Jharkhand will now need police permission even to exercise their right to speak. If that is the case, this is not democracy but a mindset of undeclared emergency.He said that Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution guarantees freedom of speech and expression, while Article 19(1)(b) guarantees the right to assemble peacefully and without arms. Maintaining law and order is the responsibility of the government, but that responsibility cannot be used as a pretext to suppress the voices of the Opposition, students and ordinary citizens.

State Government Could Have Presented the JPSC Case More Effectively Before the HC

Pratul Shahdeo said that the state government’s conduct in the JPSC matter appears questionable. When the matter came up before the High Court, the Advocate General had been provided an advance copy. Despite this, during the first hearing, the government’s case was presented by a junior advocate, who did not even oppose the defective petition.He further said that even during the second round of proceedings, the Advocate General didn’t present the government’s case. The government must explain why, when it had advance knowledge of such a crucial matter, the Advocate General’s office did not entrust the case to senior counsels, including experienced advocates from the Supreme Court.The students are asking for answers—and the government cannot evade those questions through procedural formalities.
