Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi has raised serious questions about the intent of the Hemant Soren-led government after the Jharkhand High Court’s put an interim stay on the state government’s order cancelling the JPSC (11th–13th) and Food Safety Officer recruitment exams.
Expressing his views on X (formerly Twitter), Marandi stated he had anticipated from day one that the government lacked genuine intent toward students. He asserted that a “Tughlaqi decree” issued to abruptly cancel exams without adhering to proper legal procedure was bound to be challenged and stayed by the High Court. Marandi alleged that Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Rahul Gandhi orchestrated a calculated political move to suppress student protests. Although the government promised talks with legal experts, it backtracked and unilaterally issued the cancellation order behind closed doors.
He noted that the Opposition had urged the government to file a caveat in court so its stance could be presented before any stay order was issued. Criticizing the government’s inaction, Marandi remarked that the Chief Minister ultimately validated his concerns, misleading students to end their agitation.
Marandi claimed the government’s motives remain suspicious and aimed at protecting illegally appointed individuals and responsible officials. He reiterated the demand for a CBI investigation to punish the guilty while ensuring transparently selected candidates face no hardship.
Earlier, the Jharkhand High Court today stayed the cancellation of recruitments for 342 JPSC posts and 56 Food Safety Officer positions. The court has directed the state government to file a counter-affidavit within 15 days.
