Odisha JMM workers pitch for Anjani Soren as RS candidate
Pioneer News Service, Ranchi
Hundreds of workers of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) from Odisha met Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday, urging him to nominate Anjani Soren as a Rajya Sabha candidate to strengthen the party’s presence in the neighboring state.
The delegation, comprising party members from Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh districts of Odisha, highlighted the need to expand JMM’s organizational base in Odisha, alleging exploitation of mineral resources and injustice against tribal communities under the BJP-ruled state. They asserted that projecting Anjani Soren as a Rajya Sabha candidate would help consolidate the party’s position and amplify tribal voices in the region.
The representatives also demanded the appointment of party in-charges across Odisha to further streamline organizational activities. Prominent members of the delegation included central committee member Letha Tirkey, district president Patras Ekka, secretary Sajit Toppo, district vice-president Jeetu Mahto, treasurer Ranjit Kachhap, along with Rohit Samad, Jerome Karketta, Dhibri Mahto, Prakash Kujur, Ashok Mahto, and others.
During the meeting, the delegation announced that from June 9, on the occasion of Birsa Munda Martyrdom Day, the party would launch an “Ulgulan” (mass movement) in Odisha to energize its cadre and strengthen grassroots outreach.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren patiently heard the demands and assured the delegation that all possible steps would be taken to expand the party organization in Odisha and safeguard the interests of tribal communities.
