Jhikarhatti East Panchayat of Jharkhand’s Pakur district has earned national recognition for its outstanding work in women empowerment, inclusive development, and good governance. The panchayat secured the second position across the country in the “Women-Friendly Panchayat” category.

The prestigious award was conferred at the National Panchayat Awards ceremony held in New Delhi on Wednesday. Union Minister for Panchayati Raj Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh and Minister of State for Panchayati Raj Prof. S. P. Baghel presented the honour.

The award was received on behalf of the panchayat by Zila Parishad Chairperson Khrishtmuni Hembrom, Deputy Development Commissioner Arvind Kumar Lal, Zila Parishad Vice-Chairperson Ashok Kumar Bhagat, District Panchayati Raj Officer Preetilata Murmu, Mukhiya Nargisa Sultan, and Panchayat Secretary Md. Mustakir. State Nodal Officer Sajjad Majeed and In-charge District Project Manager Anand Prakash, along with other dignitaries, were also present on the occasion.

The recognition reflects the panchayat’s innovative initiatives in advancing social, economic, and political empowerment of women, promoting participatory governance, and ensuring effective implementation of development schemes. Its efforts in strengthening women’s leadership and enhancing community participation have been widely appreciated at the national level.

Deputy Commissioner Megha Bhardwaj expressed gaiety over the achievement and congratulated the panchayat representatives, officials, and residents. She termed the honour a matter of pride for the entire Pakur district and said it would serve as an inspiration for other panchayats.

She further noted that panchayats in the district are consistently delivering commendable work in public participation, women empowerment, and sustainable development. The recognition of Jhikarhatti East Panchayat highlights the district’s commitment to grassroots governance and inclusive growth.

The achievement is not only a proud moment for Jhikarhatti East Panchayat but also for Pakur district and the state of Jharkhand.
