With only seven days left before the House Listing and Housing Census phase of Census 2027 concludes on June 14, Palamu district has recorded a significant improvement in its performance.
District Census Officer and Additional Collector Kundan Kumar said the district’s completion rate rose sharply from just 3.53 percent on May 30 to 53.83 percent as of 1:22 a.m. on June 7. Officials attributed the turnaround to intensive field efforts and coordinated teamwork.
Among the top-performing areas, Parwa Block achieved 92.68 percent completion, while Harihurganj Nagar Panchayat reached 87.50 percent. However, Bishrampur Urban Local Body and Untari Road Block continue to lag behind, with completion levels ranging between 25 and 60 percent.
The census exercise has been underway in Palamu’s four urban local bodies and 21 blocks since May 16, following the self-enumeration phase conducted from May 1 to May 15.
Kumar also highlighted the smooth progress of census work in the district’s two Schedule-V villages, Rabda and Bakoriya, under Satbarwa Block. Unlike reports of resistance in some other tribal areas, census operations in these villages have proceeded without disruption. Satbarwa Block recorded 64.96 percent completion.
Meanwhile, Manatu Block, once affected by Left-wing extremism, has achieved 69.03 percent completion. Officials said local residents, including families of former extremists, have actively participated in the exercise.
Palamu has 3,602 census blocks, and officials are optimistic of further accelerating the drive before the June 1
