Amid growing concern over widespread financial irregularities and arbitrary fee levies, a delegation of the Chhatra Samanvay Samiti called on Nalin Soren, Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Governing Body at A.N. College, Dumka, to demand a high-level impartial probe into what student representatives are describing as a massive financial scam centered on campus development funds. Led by student leaders Shyamdev Hembram, Rajiv Baskey, and Rajendra Murmu, the delegation submitted a formal memorandum detailing severe procedural violations and urging immediate legal action against those involved.
At the core of the controversy is an illegal offline collection scheme where students are allegedly forced to pay an extra ₹50 per semester under the guise of a ‘Campus/Library Development Fund.’ Student representatives emphasized that official online fee receipts already incorporate development, staff welfare, and miscellaneous charges. With the college enrolling nearly 8,000 students, the committee highlighted that lakhs of rupees are being systematically siphoned from students each semester through manual, off-the-record receipts.
The handling of these offline collections has raised intense financial alarms. Rather than depositing the cash directly into the college’s official institutional account, funds are allegedly diverted into a joint account at Indian Bank maintained under the names of two faculty members. Student leaders claim substantial sums have already been withdrawn from this account without proper authorization. Terming the operation a deliberate financial scam, the committee called for a comprehensive audit of all deposits and transactions tied to the joint account to map out the full extent of the fund misappropriation.
Compounding the financial strain on the student body is the alleged systemic denial of mandatory fee concessions to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Class (OBC) students. While neighboring constituent colleges under the same university mandate average admission fees of roughly ₹1,000, students at A.N. College are routinely charged up to ₹3,200, blatantly bypassing statutory reservations and university guidelines.
In its representation, the Chhatra Samanvay Samiti urged MP Nalin Soren to order an immediate review of the fee structure, enforce statutory concessions for reserved categories, halt the manual ₹50 collection, and refund all illegally collected monies to the affected students. The delegation further insisted on stringent legal proceedings against Principal Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh and the two teachers managing the joint account should the investigation confirm deliberate embezzlement and governance breaches.
