Jharkhand’s ambitious efforts to strengthen scientific education received a boost as Higher and Technical Education Department Principal Secretary Rahul Kumar Purwar on Tuesday inspected the under-construction Planetarium and Science Centre near Dumka Engineering College. The visit was aimed at reviewing the progress of the projects, which are expected to emerge as major centres for scientific learning and innovation in the Santhal Pargana region.
Accompanied by senior officials, Purwar was briefed by Dumka Deputy Commissioner Abhijit Sinha on the status of the projects. The Deputy Commissioner informed him that the structural work of the Planetarium has been almost completed and that the administration is expediting the remaining formalities to make the facility operational at the earliest.
Describing the Planetarium as a landmark initiative for the region, Purwar said it would play a vital role in promoting scientific temper among students and inspire greater interest in astronomy and space science. He said the facility would not only serve as an educational resource but also help position Dumka as an emerging centre for science and knowledge.
The Principal Secretary also reviewed the progress of the adjoining Science Centre, where civil and technical works are underway. According to the Deputy Commissioner, construction is progressing as per schedule, and the project is expected to be completed and inaugurated next year.
Purwar said the Planetarium and Science Centre together would create a vibrant ecosystem for science education, enabling students, researchers and the general public to gain practical exposure to modern scientific concepts. He expressed confidence that the facilities would bridge the gap between classroom learning and hands-on scientific exploration while fostering innovation, curiosity and research among the youth of the region.
