In a major crackdown following the fatal stabbing of Karni Sena youth leader Himanshu Singh outside a Double Down bar in Bistupur, the East Singhbhum police carried out surprise raids at around 15 bars and restaurants across Jamshedpur on Thursday late night to tighten security and prevent criminal activities.
The coordinated drive was launched amid growing concern over rising crime in the city and formed part of the police’s intensified action after the sensational murder. Teams led by senior police officers inspected bars and restaurants in Bistupur, Sakchi, Mango, Sonari and other prominent localities.
During the inspections, police verified licences and checked whether establishments were operating within the permitted timings. Officers also examined CCTV surveillance systems, entry and exit registers, security arrangements and compliance with safety norms.
Managers and owners were instructed to maintain proper records of visitors, ensure CCTV cameras remain functional and immediately report any suspicious activity or unruly behaviour to the police.
Police warned bar and restaurant operators that strict action would be taken against establishments found violating licensing conditions or encouraging activities that could disturb law and order. Officials said surprise inspections would continue in the coming days to ensure compliance with regulations.
The drive follows the murder of Himanshu Singh outside Double Down Bar in Bistupur, an incident that sparked widespread public outrage and prompted the administration to intensify its crackdown on crime and nightlife establishments across the city.
Senior police officials said the objective of the operation is to restore public confidence and ensure that bars and restaurants operate responsibly without becoming centres of criminal activity. Along with raids, patrolling has also been intensified in sensitive areas, with police maintaining heightened vigil to prevent any recurrence of such incidents.
