To ensure clean, high-quality, and improved facilities for passengers, Ranchi Railway Division will set up a new state-of-the-art mechanized laundry with a capacity of 6 tonnes per day (6-TPD) at Hatia.
Currently, the division requires approximately 12,750 linen packets per day. Keeping this requirement in mind, the capacity of the Hatia laundry was recently increased by 1 tonne. Following this capacity expansion, around 8,500 linen packets per day are now being prepared at the divisional level, compared to 6,800 packets per day earlier. The remaining requirement is being met through outsourced agencies.
Considering the potential increase in AC coaches and the operation of new and special trains in the future, the demand for linen is expected to rise. In view of this need, the proposed 6-tonne mechanized laundry will further strengthen the capacity and efficiency of the Ranchi Division’s existing linen management system.
After installation, the new state-of-the-art mechanized laundry will operate in two 8-hour shifts daily. It will play a crucial role in fulfilling the growing linen requirements for coaching trains in the Ranchi Division.
Through the new mechanized laundry, the washing, drying, ironing, and necessary processing of bedsheets, pillow covers, blanket covers, and other linen provided to passengers on trains will be carried out systematically and effectively using modern machinery. The new laundry will help process large volumes of linen with higher quality in less time, further strengthening the system to ensure clean and high-quality linen is provided to passengers on time during their journey.
In addition to the existing mechanized laundry, the proposed new facility will significantly enhance the operational capacity of Ranchi Railway Division and strengthen its readiness to meet future passenger and linen demands. This initiative reflects Ranchi Railway Division’s commitment to continuous improvement in passenger amenities, cleanliness, service quality, and operational efficiency.
