The Jharkhand government has taken another significant step towards modernising healthcare services and ensuring access to specialised medical facilities across the state, including in remote areas.
In this regard, Additional Chief Secretary of the Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Department, Ajay Kumar Singh, has directed officials to initiate the process of developing Ranchi Sadar Hospital as a Tele-SNCU hub and an e-Sanjeevani hub centre.
According to the Health Department, the decision follows the successful implementation of tele-radiology and tele-ICU hubs already operational at the hospital. Building on this success, the government now plans to integrate neonatal intensive care services (SNCU) and online consultation platforms into a unified digital network.
Under the proposed Tele-SNCU system, Special Newborn Care Units (SNCUs) across district hospitals and healthcare centres in Jharkhand will be connected to Ranchi Sadar Hospital. This will enable specialist doctors to monitor critically ill newborns remotely and provide timely medical guidance and treatment support, thereby helping reduce infant mortality rates.
In addition, the development of the e-Sanjeevani hub will allow patients in rural and remote areas to consult specialist doctors through video conferencing. This is expected to significantly reduce the need for travel to major cities, saving both time and expenses for patients.
Officials said the initiative is aimed at strengthening the state’s healthcare delivery system by leveraging digital technology and improving access to quality medical care at the grassroots level.
