The Supreme Court on Monday will hear a public interest litigation seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or an independent probe into alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2025, with the petitioner also seeking cancellation of the examination and a fresh test.
A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana is likely to take up the petition filed by activist Harisharan Devgan, through advocate Satyam Singh Rajput, for hearing.
The petition filed by social activist Harisharan Devgan, represented by advocate Satyam Singh Rajput, has sought transfer of the ongoing probe from the state CID to the CBI “to undertake an independent, impartial, comprehensive, effective and time-bound investigation into the alleged irregularities, manipulation, malpractice….”
The petitioner pleaded that the CBI probe should cover the role of officials, examination-centre personnel, service providers, scanning and evaluation agencies, technical agencies and other persons connected with the conduct, custody, processing, evaluation and publication of the results.
On August 19, the Hemant Soren government cancelled the exams following massive public protests over 26 days in the state.
The petition has, however, clarified that it is “seeking transfer of the investigation from the state CID to the CBI not on account of any personal allegation of lack of bona fides against the investigating officers, but having regard to the nature and magnitude of the allegations,” and because the investigation requires examination of the functioning of the state recruitment machinery itself, including the possible role of officials, examination and centre personnel, technical agencies, scanning and evaluation agencies and other service providers.
