In a major initiative to strengthen the search for missing persons, the Jharkhand Police has decided to establish permanent monitoring teams in every district to track cases of missing and abducted children and adults and ensure their timely recovery.
The decision has been taken on the directions of the Director General of Police (DGP). Police Headquarters has issued instructions to all Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) to constitute the teams at the earliest and submit compliance reports.
Under the new system, the district-level teams will maintain detailed records of missing persons, closely monitor the progress of investigations, coordinate with relevant agencies, expedite recovery efforts and ensure timely submission of progress reports before courts wherever required.
According to police officials, the initiative comes in response to the growing number of missing persons cases in the state, particularly involving children. Several such cases have been linked to human trafficking, child labour and other serious crimes, making prompt investigation and coordinated action essential.
The DGP has directed that tracing missing persons should become a top policing priority across Jharkhand. District teams will be required to send regular progress reports to Police Headquarters, enabling continuous monitoring at the state level.
The district monitoring teams are expected to become operational across the state shortly after their constitution by the respective SSPs and SPs.
