Task Force to help Jamshedpur become clean and encroachment-free

Jamshedpur

In a significant step towards strengthening urban infrastructure and improving civic services, the Town Advisory Committee (TAC) approved a series of key measures aimed at enhancing sanitation, public safety, traffic management, housing maintenance and environmental sustainability during a high-level meeting held at the Tata Steel UISL Boardroom.

The meeting was chaired by D.B. Sundara Ramam, Vice President (Corporate Services), Tata Steel, and Atul Bhatnagar, Managing Director, Tata Steel UISL. Deliberations focused on resolving long-pending civic issues, including illegal parking, garbage disposal, deteriorating residential infrastructure, water shortages and illegal encroachments.

Taking serious note of growing concerns over anti-social activities, the committee directed authorities to intensify security measures in vulnerable areas. In Bistupur’s M-Road parking complex, where complaints of drug abuse and unlawful gatherings have been reported, local police have been asked to strengthen evening patrols. Similarly, the Agrico Workers Flats area will witness the installation of high-intensity streetlights and regular security patrols to curb unlawful activities and improve public safety.

To improve sanitation standards, the TAC decided to increase garbage collection frequency in Bistupur’s commercial areas from two days a week to three days a week. The committee also approved extending the operating hours of Sidhgora Nature Trail Park until 8 pm, providing residents with additional time for recreation and fitness activities.

Addressing civic amenities, the committee sanctioned urgent measures to resolve the drinking water crisis affecting residents of the Baradwari Supervisor Flat area. It also directed that structural assessments and maintenance work of ageing company flats be expedited in a phased manner, with particular attention to repairing deteriorating roofs and improving living conditions in older residential colonies, especially in Baridih.

Traffic congestion caused by heavy commercial vehicles was another major issue discussed during the meeting. The committee approved a proposal to divert trucks away from key city roads and utilise Burmamines Ground as a designated parking facility for commercial vehicles. In addition, anti-encroachment drives and road repair work will be undertaken along the crucial stretch between Cable Company Gate and Tube Division Gate to improve traffic flow and road safety.

Encouraging greater citizen participation in urban governance, the TAC urged residents to report illegal encroachments, road blockages and unauthorised constructions through the central civic helpline number 46000. The committee also appealed to citizens to adopt GAIL gas pipeline connections as part of efforts to promote cleaner and greener energy use across the city.

The decisions taken during the meeting are expected to contribute significantly to improving civic infrastructure, public convenience and the overall quality of life in Jamshedpur.
