In a bid to improve access to education for students from remote villages, the Lohardaga district administration on Saturday distributed bicycles to 400 Class VIII students under the Jharkhand government’s bicycle distribution scheme.
The bicycles were distributed by Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar Meena during a function held at Chief Minister’s District Hindu High School, Nadia Campus. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teachers and district officials, with the beneficiaries expressing joy after receiving the bicycles.
The scheme, implemented by the Scheduled Tribe, Scheduled Caste, Minority and Backward Class Welfare Department of the Jharkhand government, aims to help students commute to school more easily, particularly those travelling from distant rural areas.
Addressing the gathering, the DC said the bicycles received from the state government were being distributed following the approval of the district-level committee. He said the initiative would significantly reduce the time and physical effort students currently spend walking long distances to school, enabling them to attend classes regularly and devote more time to their studies.
Meena urged students to make education their highest priority and take full advantage of the various welfare schemes being implemented by the state government, including scholarships, free uniforms, textbooks and bicycle distribution. He encouraged them to study diligently and bring pride to their families, the district, the state and the nation.
He also reiterated the district administration’s commitment to ensuring quality education and the overall development of students, assuring them of continued support in their academic journey.
Among those present at the programme were Project Director, ITDA, Sushma Neelam Soreng; District Welfare Officer Saraswati Kachhap; District Education Officer Das Sunanda Chandramouleshwar; District Education Superintendent Abhijeet Kumar; along with teachers and a large number of students.
