Admin issues Muharram guidelines, calls for peaceful celebrations

A district-level peace committee meeting was held at the Collectorate on Saturday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Pashupati Nath Mishra to ensure the peaceful, safe and harmonious observance of Muharram.

The meeting was attended by members of the coordination committee, office-bearers of the Muharram Intezamia Committee, social workers, public representatives and senior administrative officials. Representatives from various blocks briefed the administration on procession routes, security arrangements and local preparations. They informed officials that peace committee meetings had already been conducted at the grassroots level to facilitate smooth celebrations.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner appealed to all communities to celebrate the festival with mutual brotherhood and cooperation. He urged citizens not to pay attention to rumours and warned against posting objectionable content on social media platforms. Any attempt to spread misinformation or disturb communal harmony, he said, would invite strict legal action.

The administration reiterated that the use of DJs during Muharram processions remains completely prohibited, a decision supported by members of the Muharram Intezamia Committee and the Peace Committee. Organisers were also directed to strictly follow the Standard Operating Procedures issued in line with Jharkhand High Court guidelines.

Officials informed that the height of flags, sound systems and tableaux mounted on vehicles must not exceed four metres from the ground. People will not be allowed to sit on vehicle rooftops or carry oversized materials during processions.

The Deputy Commissioner instructed officials to ensure cleanliness, drinking water, uninterrupted electricity supply and medical assistance during the festival. He also called for close coordination between officials and procession organisers to maintain law and order and ensure adherence to approved routes.
