Admission process begins at State’s oldest university

Ranchi University has begun the admission process for the 2026-27 academic session, with online applications for undergraduate and vocational courses opening through the Chancellor’s Portal from June 12 to June 29. Admissions will be conducted for 43,530 seats across the university’s 24 constituent colleges.

A key change this year is the merger of Botany and Zoology into a single subject, ‘Life Science’, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and UGC guidelines. Students seeking admission in these disciplines will now apply under Life Science.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Saroj Sharma said the move is aimed at promoting multidisciplinary education and clarified that there has been no reduction in seats. She added that preparations for the new academic session are nearly complete and several academic proposals will be taken up at the upcoming Academic Council meeting.

Addressing concerns over delays in academic sessions, Dr. Sharma acknowledged that the university continues to face challenges due to a shortage of manpower. She said efforts are underway to streamline examinations, evaluation and result publication, noting that several pending results have already been released.

The Vice-Chancellor also reiterated the university’s commitment to implementing NEP provisions, including greater academic flexibility, multidisciplinary learning and skill-based education. She said the university is working on a student-friendly model for the proposed cluster system while ensuring studies are not affected.

Meanwhile, admissions at the Law Institute have resumed following the resolution of a legal dispute, while efforts are also underway to address faculty shortages in the Department of Tribal and Regional Languages.
