Jharkhand Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that the party was attempting to “impose” industrialist Parimal Nathwani on the state after promoting corporate interests.
Addressing the ongoing political developments around the Rajya Sabha elections, Ansari said the BJP had earlier “brought the politics of Adani and Ambani” and was now backing Nathwani, raising questions over the party’s intentions.
The minister also met several BJP legislators in the Assembly and urged them to rise above party lines, pressure, and fear, and vote according to their conscience in the interest of Jharkhand.
“Is there a shortage of capable, educated, and struggling people in Jharkhand? Is the state not capable of choosing its own representative?” he asked, questioning the need for an outsider-backed candidate.
In a pointed remark, Ansari recalled that BJP leaders had earlier criticised Nathwani as a “moneyed outsider,” and questioned what had changed now. “If you do not have the numbers, you should maintain restraint,” he added.
The minister appealed to BJP MLAs to support the ruling alliance’s candidate Pranav Jha, stating that Jharkhand should be represented by someone who understands the state’s culture, aspirations, and interests.
Emphasising “Jharkhand’s pride above all,” Ansari expressed confidence that several BJP legislators would rise above political affiliations and take a decision in favour of the state’s dignity and future.
His remarks come amid heightened political activity ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections, where the entry of Parimal Nathwani has added a new dimension to the contest.
