All 42 migrant workers from Jharkhand rescued after the ammonia gas leak at a seafood processing facility in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district have safely returned to their homes, following the intervention of the state government.
The workers were rescued after the industrial accident at St. Peter’s and Paul’s Seafoods Exports Facility on June 21. Acting on the directions of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the Labour, Employment, Training and Skill Development Department, along with the State Migrant Workers Control Room, coordinated an extensive rescue and rehabilitation operation to ensure their safe return.
At the Jharkhand government’s request, the Railway authorities arranged a special sleeper coach on the Alappuzha-Dhanbad Express for the workers. After reaching Jharkhand, the district administration facilitated their onward journey to their respective hometowns. Food, drinking water and security were provided throughout the journey. The workers thanked the Chief Minister and the state government for ensuring their safe return and timely assistance.
