Awareness Workshop organised on World Sickle Cell Day

An awareness workshop was organized at the auditorium of Sadar Hospital, Deoghar, on the occasion of World Sickle Cell Day to raise public awareness about Sickle Cell disease.
The program was inaugurated by jointly lighting the ceremonial lamp by District Leprosy Elimination Officer Dr. Manoj Gupta, Deputy Superintendent (DS) of Sadar Hospital Dr. Sushma Verma, District RCH Officer Dr. K.K. Singh, District TB Officer Dr. Sanchayan, District Program Manager (DPM) Neeraj Bhagat, and District Program Coordinator (DPC) Praveen Singh.
Addressing the workshop, the officials provided detailed information about the causes, symptoms, prevention, testing, and treatment of Sickle Cell disease. The speakers stated that Sickle Cell is a genetic blood disorder, and timely identification and proper treatment can provide patients with a better quality of life. They appealed to people to get tested for Sickle Cell and to remain aware of this disease.
The DS emphasized that public awareness is the most important medium for the prevention and effective management of this disease. DLEO Dr. called upon health workers to take the awareness message to as many people as possible at the community level.
During the workshop, essential information related to Sickle Cell disease was provided to health workers and urban Sahiyas (ASHA workers), and discussions were held on effectively conducting awareness activities.
After the program, an awareness chariot was flagged off to spread public awareness about Sickle Cell disease across the district. The chariot will travel through various areas, providing important information to the general public regarding Sickle Cell disease, its testing, treatment, and prevention.
On this occasion, DDM Pokhraj, Rajiv, Sudhanshu Pandey, Rajesh Roy, along with urban Sahiyas and other staff of the Health Department were present.
The objective of the program was to increase awareness among the general public about Sickle Cell disease and to encourage timely testing and treatment.
