To control the rising number of stray dogs in the city and ensure public safety, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is preparing to implement a scientific and systematic approach. Under this initiative, an animal shelter-cum-birth control center will be constructed on a 20.2-decimal plot of land in Bargai.
Municipal Commissioner Sushant Gaurav inspected the designated site for the center along with the corporation’s team. While reviewing the preparations for construction, he issued necessary directives to the officials.
The Urban Development and Housing Department has allocated Rs 2.1 crore to the Ranchi Municipal Corporation for the construction and operation of the center.
Once the center becomes operational, stray dogs will be captured, sterilized, and vaccinated. Essential health services will also be provided. This initiative will help control the growing stray dog population and reduce incidents of dog attacks and other related issues in the city.
The Municipal Commissioner has directed officials to prepare a proposal for developing a dog shelter home on the remaining portion of the total 1-acre-90-decimal land. Officials have been asked to create a detailed design for this purpose. Once the shelter home is developed, better facilities will be available for the protection and care of stray dogs.
