In a major administrative push to streamline research admissions, Sido Kanhu Murmu University (SKMU) has resolved to clear the bottlenecks in its ongoing doctoral enrollment drive and issue a second selection list to fill remaining vacancies. The decision came during a comprehensive review meeting presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kunul Kandir, where the university also scheduled the commencement of mandatory PhD coursework classes from September 20.
Controller of Examinations Dr. Reena Neelima Lakra apprised the university leadership of the current status, pointing out that admissions have been finalized for only 175 scholars against the total sanctioned strength of 394 PhD seats. Taking note of the gap, the varsity administration decided to publish the second merit list immediately for vacant disciplines, which will also encompass one remaining seat each in Commerce and Santhali departments.
To expand research mentoring capacity, the university laid down clear eligibility guidelines for teachers aspiring to become registered research supervisors. Permanent faculty members across university departments and constituent colleges possessing a doctorate will be empanelled upon meeting specific publication benchmarks: at least five research papers for Professors, three for Associate Professors, and two for Assistant Professors.
Emphasizing scholar welfare, Prof. Kandir directed the admission cell to assign research guides without delay so that fellowship recipients do not encounter procedural hurdles in securing their funding. The Vice-Chancellor instructed university officials to wrap up the ongoing enrollment cycle promptly, ensuring that preparations for the subsequent academic session’s PhD admissions can begin without administrative lag.
Senior varsity officials, including Dean of Students’ Welfare Dr. Jainendra Yadav, Registrar Dr. Abdus Sattar, Finance Officer Dr. Sanjay Kumar Sinha, along with faculty deans and departmental heads, were present at the deliberation.
