The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced that it will stage protests by burning effigies of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at all district headquarters across Jharkhand on Friday, July 24, alleging that the party has adopted a “double standard” over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted in the state.
The decision was taken on the instructions of Jharkhand BJP president Aditya Sahu, with the protests scheduled to begin at 4 pm. The information was shared by state BJP vice-president Balmukund Sahay.
Addressing the media, Sahay alleged that the Congress speaks about transparency in recruitment examinations at the national level but has remained silent over controversies surrounding several recruitment processes in Jharkhand, including the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), JSSC-CGL and Excise Constable examinations. He claimed that the Congress follows different standards in Delhi and Jharkhand and accused the party of maintaining a contradictory political stance.
Sahay said the effigy-burning programme is intended to protest what the BJP described as the Congress’ “double political character” and its silence over issues affecting the future of lakhs of aspiring candidates in Jharkhand. He alleged that while Rahul Gandhi frequently raises concerns about examination transparency elsewhere, he has not commented on the alleged irregularities during the tenure of the Hemant Soren-led government, in which the Congress is an alliance partner.
The BJP leader further said that if the Congress is genuinely concerned about students and job aspirants, it should demand a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into all examinations conducted by the JPSC while supporting the Hemant Soren government in the state.
Reiterating the party’s demands, Sahay called for complete transparency in recruitment processes, stringent action against those found guilty of any wrongdoing, and safeguards to ensure that the future of young job aspirants is not compromised. He said the statewide protest is aimed at registering a democratic opposition to what the BJP termed the Congress’ inconsistent stand on recruitment examination controversies in Jharkhand.
