Eighteen-year-old Avni Kejriwal of Delhi Public School (DPS), Ranchi, has emerged as the national topper in the CBSE Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) 2025-26, securing a perfect score of 500 out of 500. A commerce stream student, Avni’s achievement has brought laurels to her school, Ranchi and Jharkhand.
Speaking about her preparation strategy, Avni said consistency played a key role in her success. “I never left things for the last minute and solved a lot of previous years’ question papers. They were particularly helpful in Accountancy and Applied Mathematics, where many questions were repeated,” she said.
Interestingly, when the results were first declared in April, Avni had scored 95.2 per cent, with full marks in Accountancy, Applied Mathematics and Economics. However, dissatisfied with her scores in English and Business Studies, she applied for re-evaluation after examining the digitally marked answer sheets. The revised result eventually gave her a perfect score.
Despite her academic commitments, Avni stressed the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between studies and personal life. “I never isolated myself. I met friends whenever possible, listened to music and sketched. Taking breaks is as important as studying,” she said.
Apart from academics, Avni enjoys listening to pop music and playing basketball. In 2025, she secured third prize in the National Letter Writing Competition organised by India Post on the theme, ‘Importance of Letter Writing in the Digital Age’.
DPS Ranchi Principal Dr Jaya Chauhan described Avni’s achievement as a matter of immense pride for the institution. “Her phenomenal success reflects not only her dedication and perseverance but also the culture of excellence that DPS Ranchi strives to nurture. We congratulate Avni, her parents and teachers and wish her continued success,” she said.
Avni credited her parents and teachers for their constant support. “My parents never pressured me for marks. Even when I had scored 95.2 per cent, they were equally happy. They fully supported my decision to seek re-evaluation, and my teachers have always encouraged me,” she said.
A resident of Ratu Road, Ranchi, Avni is the daughter of businessman Mitesh Kejriwal and homemaker Poonam Kejriwal. Looking ahead, she plans to pursue Economics or BBA from a premier institution and hopes to start her own business in the future. “I want to step out of my comfort zone, explore new opportunities and gain new experiences,” she said.
