Congress Seeks Extension of Voter List Revision in Jharkhand
Ranchi: A delegation of Congress leaders submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission through the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, urging an extension of the ongoing *Special Intensive Revision (SIR)* of the electoral rolls in Jharkhand.
Acting on the directives of State In-Charge K. Raju and Pradesh Congress Committee President Keshav Mahato Kamlesh, the delegation highlighted the slow pace of enumeration and digitization in major constituencies including Ranchi, Hatia, Dhanbad, Jharia, and Bokaro. Official figures reveal that progress remains minimal: Ranchi has achieved only 4.14%, Hatia 8.48%, Dhanbad 4.78%, Jharia 5.96%, and Bokaro 11.56% digitization of voter records.
The memorandum was handed to Additional Chief Electoral Officer Subodh Kumar in the absence of CEO K. Ravi Kumar by Congress leaders Surya Kant Shukla (General Secretary), Lal Kishore Nath Shahdeo (General Secretary & Media Convenor), and Sanjay Kumar (Vice President, Social Media Department).
The leaders noted that the SIR process, scheduled from June 30 to July 29, is progressing too slowly in densely populated constituencies. They requested an extension of 15 days, moving the deadline to August 13, to ensure that no eligible voter is excluded.
“The spirit of democracy lies in guaranteeing every citizen’s inclusion in the electoral rolls,” the memorandum stated. The Congress Party emphasized that extending the timeline is essential to safeguard public interest and fair elections, ensuring that every valid voter is counted.
