Under the directives of the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority, Ranchi, and Sudhanshu Kumar Shashi, Principal District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Dumka, a legal awareness program titled “Empowered Youth, Empowered India” was organized at Dumka Central Jail on the occasion of World Youth Day. The initiative aimed to educate young inmates about their constitutional rights and duties while inspiring them toward education, positive thinking, discipline, addiction-free living, and constructive social responsibility.
Addressing the gathering, DLSA Secretary Vivek Kumar highlighted that youth represent the nation’s greatest asset and can play a transformative role in national development if guided by awareness and positive action. He urged the young inmates to respect the law, abstain from violence and crime, and foster peace and brotherhood within society. Inmates were also sensitized regarding the provision of free legal aid, Lok Adalats, mediation mechanisms, statutory rights, and various welfare services offered by the legal services authority, reassuring them of continuous legal support whenever required.
The program saw the participation of jail administration officials, representatives from the legal services authority, Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs), and jail inmates. Concluding the session, attendees pledged to contribute actively toward building an empowered, conscious, drug-free, and crime-free society. Simultaneously, Para Legal Volunteers conducted awareness campaigns and distributed informative pamphlets across various blocks and panchayats of the district.
