Four Maoists surrender in West Singhbhum

Four cadres of the banned CPI (Maoist) surrendered before the West Singhbhum police at the Police Centre in Chaibasa on Tuesday, including a Maoist carrying a reward of ₹10 lakh. Following the surrender, the district police declared the Saranda, Kolhan and Porahat regions free of Naxal presence.
The surrender took place in the presence of Kolhan Range DIG Anuranjan Kispotta, senior CRPF officials, West Singhbhum Superintendent of Police Amit Renu, Seraikela-Kharsawan SP Manoj Swargiyari and other senior police and security officials.
Those who surrendered were Saluka Kayam alias Bhubaneswar, a resident of Kudaburu village under Sonua police station and carrying a ₹10-lakh bounty; Kodamuni Koda, a resident of Rengrahatu under Tonto police station and carrying a ₹1-lakh reward; Anita Tamssoy of Anjedbera under Muffasil police station; and Pinky, a resident of Ichagora under Goilkera police station.
The police said that between September 2025 and August 2026, a total of 52 Maoists surrendered, while 18 were killed in encounters and 29 were arrested. Security forces also recovered 49 weapons, 9,214 rounds of ammunition and 15 IEDs during the period.
Speaking to reporters after the surrender ceremony, DIG Kispotta said there were, “on record”, no Maoist cadres remaining in West Singhbhum district.
He warned Maoists who had fled the district and were hiding elsewhere to surrender, failing which security forces would continue operations against them.
On the challenges for the police after the decline of Left-Wing Extremism, Kispotta said the focus would now be on strengthening policing and improving coordination and relations with local communities to prevent extremist groups from regaining a foothold.
