BOKARO
Screening facilities for Sickle Cell Anaemia and Thalassemia are set to be strengthened across Bokaro district with CSR support from Vikas Sarathi, Jhpiego and CIL. The initiative will connect all Community Health Centres, Sub-Divisional Hospitals and Sadar Hospital with enhanced screening facilities.
A total of 14 screening machines and two RBSK units will be supported, along with 5,000 and 2,000 screening kits to facilitate large-scale screening.
The initiative aims at early detection, counselling, referral and timely treatment, with special focus on children, adolescents and other eligible beneficiaries. All ANC mothers in the district are also planned to be screened for Sickle Cell Anaemia and Thalassemia to enable early identification and appropriate counselling and follow-up.
The strengthened facilities are expected to improve access to screening in rural and remote areas and ensure suspected cases are linked with appropriate healthcare services for confirmatory testing and treatment.
During the visit to Sadar Hospital, Dr Arvind Radhakrishnan, IAS Probationer, and DMS Dr NP Singh were present.
