Four minor girls from Jharkhand’s Pakur district were rescued from an alleged human trafficking network after Mumbai Police traced them and coordinated with Jharkhand authorities for their safe return. The girls, aged between 13 and 17 years, have now been produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
According to officials, the girls were allegedly lured by a trafficker three months ago with promises of employment and taken to Punjab. They were reportedly placed as domestic workers in a house in Ambala. Somehow, the girls managed to escape and later reached Mumbai, where they were found under suspicious circumstances by Mumbai Police.
During questioning, the girls narrated their ordeal, prompting Mumbai Police to contact Jharkhand Police. Following coordination between the two states, the girls were safely brought back to Pakur and handed over to the Child Welfare Committee.
CWC member Vinod Pramanik said the girls would undergo counselling before being reunited with their families, who have already been informed. He added that detailed statements are being recorded to identify the alleged trafficker.
Officials said the accused has not yet been identified. Based on the information provided by the girls, police will register an FIR and initiate legal action once the suspect’s identity is established.
The district administration has urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant against individuals offering jobs or promising a better future to children and adolescents. Citizens have also been advised to immediately report any suspected human trafficking or suspicious activities to the police or the concerned authorities.
