Governance at Doorsteps: Mega Welfare Camp organized in Dumka

June 14, 2026

KUMAR PRABHAT

DUMKA

In a major push to deliver essential governance at the literal doorsteps of the rural populace, a special camp under the ‘Abua Jati-Nivasi Praman Patra Abhiyan’ was organized at the Rajbandh Panchayat football ground under Dumka block on Saturday. The mega camp was ceremonially inaugurated by local MLA Basant Soren by lighting the traditional lamp in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Abhijit Sinha and other senior district officials.

Addressing a large gathering on the occasion, legislator Basant Soren stated that the ongoing campaign is being executed under the direct instructions of Chief Minister Hemant Soren with the core objective of easing the process of acquiring caste and residential certificates for the local populace at the panchayat and village levels. Highlighting the timeline of the initiative, Soren informed that the fortnight-long drive, which commenced on June 6, will continue in full swing till June 20, covering two to three strategic locations within every single panchayat area across the district.

The lawmaker underscored the shifting paradigm of governance under the current dispensation, noting that citizens who previously had to make endless rounds of block offices for basic documentation are now finding the entire administrative machinery reaching out to their doorsteps. He emphasized that the primary target of the government is to ensure that the rural masses do not have to travel long distances for minor administrative tasks, thereby eliminating middle-men and heavily reducing the hassle of accessing various state-sponsored welfare schemes.

Emphasizing the state government’s ongoing commitment to women’s empowerment, Soren said that e-rickshaws (Totos) are being provided to rural women to bolster livelihood opportunities. This intervention is aimed at linking women with self-employment, thereby elevating their household income, ensuring better nourishment for families, and enabling quality education for children.

Speaking on the administrative execution, Dumka Deputy Commissioner Abhijit Sinha reiterated that obtaining valid identity credentials is a fundamental right of every eligible citizen. He remarked that such certificates act as key entry points to a multitude of government services and student scholarships. Sinha also highlighted that parallel welfare frameworks, such as the ‘Apnar Aato Kami’ program, are being aggressively implemented by the district administration to streamline the official registration of migrant laborers and provide them with safety nets. He urged the common public to freely bring forward their grievances before the district administration, promising redressal on high priority.

The event culminated with a mass asset distribution ceremony under various state welfare schemes. Marking a significant stride towards financial independence, legislator Basant Soren personally handed over the keys of the newly allocated Totos to the beneficiary women of self-help groups. Prominent dignitaries present during the operational review included the Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC) and the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Dumka, alongside several community stakeholders.
