Political activity intensified in Jharkhand’s capital on Sunday ahead of the 2026 Rajya Sabha elections, with key meetings held at the Chief Minister’s residence involving leaders of the ruling alliance.
Senior Congress leader and party observer for the Rajya Sabha elections, Bhupesh Baghel, along with Ajoy Sharma, met Chief Minister Hemant Soren and held detailed discussions on the upcoming elections. Political sources indicated that alliance strategy, coordination among partners, and electoral preparedness were key focus areas of the meeting.
Following the discussions, Baghel stated that there were no differences within the alliance and expressed confidence that both INDIA Bloc candidates would secure victory. He also informed that Chief Minister Hemant Soren is likely to host a dinner for alliance MLAs, and that nomination filings by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress candidates are expected to take place jointly.
Meanwhile, alliance unity was further emphasized with JMM candidate Baidyanath Ram also visiting the Chief Minister’s residence, stating that preparations for nomination submission were underway.
Baghel also responded to questions regarding independent political meetings, saying that in a democracy anyone is free to meet anyone and such interactions should not be given political meaning.
On the other hand, CPI(ML) MLA Arup Chatterjee reiterated that the party would support any candidate capable of defeating the BJP, while also raising concerns over unmet political expectations within the alliance.
Earlier, former Rajya Sabha MP and businessman Parimal Nathwani also met Chief Minister Hemant Soren in Ranchi after purchasing nomination papers, triggering political speculation in political circles.
With back-to-back meetings and public statements, the INDIA Bloc appears to be finalizing its strategy with a focus on securing both Rajya Sabha seats from Jharkhand.
