The Jharkhand Regional Artists Society held its first executive committee meeting on Saturday, bringing together 130 elected office-bearers and executive members representing all 24 districts of the state. Former Jharkhand minister Bandhu Tirkey attended the meeting as the chief guest and called upon artists to unite for the preservation and promotion of Jharkhand’s art, culture and languages.
The meeting deliberated on several issues concerning the state’s cultural, music and film industries and adopted a series of resolutions aimed at strengthening the regional creative sector.
Expressing concern over the growing use of obscene content in regional music, the society resolved to send a delegation to recording studios and music production houses across the state. The delegation will submit a memorandum urging producers to refrain from creating and promoting songs that undermine Jharkhand’s cultural values.
The executive committee also demanded the early implementation of Jharkhand’s long-awaited film policy and proposed the establishment of mini theatres in every block to encourage the screening of regional films. To press these demands, the society announced plans to organise a statewide foot march.
The meeting further resolved to work towards providing insurance coverage and social security for artists, while also promoting welfare schemes, skill development, recognition programmes and employment opportunities for members of the artistic community.
