A four-and-a-half-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted in the Sadar police station area of Ranchi. Police have arrested the main accused in connection with the case.
The accused has been identified as Maukim Ansari, a resident of the same locality, police said.
According to police, the accused allegedly lured the child to him on the pretext of spending time with her and sexually assaulted her. The child was reportedly frightened and distressed following the alleged incidents.
After the family came to know about the matter, they spoke to the child, who allegedly disclosed what had happened. The family subsequently informed Sadar police.
Police registered an FIR and conducted raids, leading to the arrest of the accused. A case has been registered against him under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other applicable laws. Police said further investigation is underway.
