MGMMCH gets first batch of 22 foreign medical graduates for internship

In a first for the institution, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College and Hospital has received its largest-ever batch of 22 Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) for internship, marking a significant boost to its academic and clinical activities.
The doctors have been posted following an order by the Jharkhand Council of Medical Registration (JCMR) and will undergo the mandatory one-year Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) as prescribed by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The move is expected to strengthen patient care by increasing the number of trainee doctors across key clinical departments.
The FMGs will be posted in General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Emergency Medicine, where they will work under the supervision of experienced faculty members and senior consultants.
Hospital officials said the internship will equip the graduates with practical exposure to India’s healthcare system, including diagnosis and treatment of diseases common in the country, emergency care, government health protocols and hospital administration. The interns will also participate in ward rounds, outpatient services, operation theatres, labour rooms and community health programmes.
Officials said the presence of the large batch would enrich the college’s academic environment by encouraging greater clinical interaction, seminars and case discussions.
The JCMR has granted provisional registration to all 22 doctors, enabling them to begin their internship immediately. After successfully completing the programme, they will become eligible for permanent medical registration in India.
Hospital authorities said this is only the first phase of allotments. As many as 36 more Foreign Medical Graduates are expected to join MGM Medical College in the next phase, taking the total number of FMG interns to nearly 60.
