Football fever has gripped the State Capital, Ranchi, ahead of the 135th Durand Cup which scheduled to inaugurated on July 26. The distribution of ‘Zero Tickets’ (free tickets) began on Wednesday, with 12,256 tickets issued on the first day.
The organizing committee informed that a total of 25,000 tickets are available for the opening match. The remaining tickets will be released on July 23; should any tickets still remain, they will be distributed on July 25 and July 26.
The tickets are being distributed on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis. A total of 12 counters have been set up within the stadium complex for this purpose—10 counters are operating between Gate Nos. 11 and 13, and two additional counters are located near Gate No. 23.
Football enthusiasts arriving to collect tickets on Wednesday displayed great excitement regarding the Durand Cup. People remarked that the availability of free tickets would allow a larger number of spectators to witness world-class football at the stadium.
Despite the crowds, the availability of multiple counters ensured a smooth ticket distribution process. Fans believe that interest in football is growing in Jharkhand and that hosting the Durand Cup is a matter of pride for the State.
Sports Director Chhavi Ranjan said that almost all preparations for the successful hosting of the Durand Cup have been completed. He also said that the arrangements regarding security, parking, ticket distribution, medical facilities, and other spectator amenities have been finalized.
Ranjan announced that the tournament would commence with the opening match at 5:00 PM on July 26. He appealed to the residents of the state to turn out in large numbers at the stadium to cheer for the players.
