Petrol bomb hurled at RSS office, two suspects caught on CCTV

An alleged petrol bomb attack on the premises of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office in Ranchi’s Nivaranpur area triggered a major security alert in the Jharkhand capital in the early hours of Wednesday. Police have launched an extensive investigation after two unidentified men were seen on CCTV footage allegedly carrying out the act before fleeing the scene.

The incident took place around 12:30 am at the RSS office located under the Chutia police station limits. According to preliminary findings, the suspects arrived carrying petrol in a plastic container and prepared improvised incendiary devices using glass bottles. They then allegedly threw two petrol-filled bottles towards the office compound.

One of the bottles exploded after landing inside the premises, while the other failed to detonate. No casualties or major property damage have been reported.

Law enforcement officials reached the site shortly after being alerted and cordoned off the area for examination. Investigators have begun scrutinising footage from surveillance cameras installed in and around the locality to establish the identity and movements of the suspects.

Ranchi City SP Paras Rana confirmed that a detailed probe is underway. He said multiple teams, including forensic experts, have been pressed into service to collect evidence and reconstruct the sequence of events. The police are also using technical surveillance and other investigative tools to trace those responsible.

The incident prompted several BJP leaders to visit the RSS office. Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi, Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth and former minister C.P. Singh reached the premises to assess the situation and interact with office representatives.

Officials said raids are being conducted at various locations based on preliminary leads. While investigators suspect the involvement of two individuals, the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Police are examining all possible angles, including whether the act was intended to intimidate or provoke unrest.

The investigation is continuing, and security around the RSS office has been tightened as a precautionary measure.
