In a major step towards sustainable waste management and environmental conservation, Tata Steel UISL launched Prakriti Sneh, a premium organic city compost brand, under the Sustainability Month theme, Thinking is Good. Doing is Better. The initiative aims to convert biodegradable municipal waste into nutrient-rich compost, promoting a circular economy while reducing dependence on landfills.
The product was formally unveiled at Beldih Club by D. B. Sundara Ramam, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel, in the presence of Atul Kumar Bhatnagar, Managing Director, Tata Steel UISL, Sumita Nupur, media representatives, green ambassadors and other distinguished guests.
Jamshedpur generates nearly 300 tonnes of municipal solid waste every day. Through scientific composting processes, Tata Steel UISL is converting the biodegradable portion of this waste into high-quality organic compost that enhances soil fertility and supports urban gardening, landscaping and sustainable agriculture.
Addressing the gathering, Sundara Ramam emphasized the importance of responsible waste management and active citizen participation in building greener and more sustainable cities. He noted that initiatives such as Prakriti Sneh demonstrate how environmental challenges can be transformed into opportunities for community development and ecological conservation.
Atul Kumar Bhatnagar reaffirmed Tata Steel UISL’s commitment to environmental stewardship and circular economy principles. He highlighted that the initiative reflects the company’s broader vision of creating sustainable urban ecosystems through innovative and responsible waste management practices.
To encourage widespread adoption, Tata Steel UISL has introduced Prakriti Sneh at a special introductory price of ₹10 per kilogram, against its market retail price of ₹20 per kilogram. The compost is currently available at Tata Steel UISL depots located in Northern Town, Ramdas Bhatta, Baridih, Kasidih and Burmamines. Residents can also avail home delivery within 48 hours by contacting the company’s helpline at 0657-6646000. The product is expected to be made available on the BigBasket platform in the near future.
The launch concluded with a collective green pledge by participants, reaffirming their commitment to environmental sustainability and a cleaner future for the Steel City: “Mera Shehar, Mera Abhimaan; Harit Jamshedpur, Hamari Pehchaan.”
The initiative marks another significant milestone in Jamshedpur’s journey towards becoming a model city for sustainable urban development, where waste is transformed into a valuable resource for the benefit of both people and the environment.
