Members of the Adivasi Jan Parishad paid floral tributes to tribal icon Birsa Munda on his martyrdom day near the Dislari bridge in Kokar on Monday, reaffirming their commitment to his ideals.
Leaders and workers of the organisation gathered at the site and offered homage at Birsa Munda’s statue, recalling his contribution and pledging to follow the path shown by the revered leader.
Addressing the gathering, central president of the organisation, Prem Shahi Munda, said that the Chotanagpur Tenancy (CNT) Act came into existence due to the struggle and sacrifices of Birsa Munda. However, he alleged that the Act is being openly ignored in present-day Jharkhand.
He further accused certain officials, political leaders, and land mafias of illegally grabbing tribal land and using the proceeds for political purposes. “The existence of the tribal community is deeply linked to its land, culture, and religion, but under current circumstances, their condition is steadily weakening,” he said.
Munda also alleged that the government is acting contrary to the ideals of Birsa Munda and is favouring corporate interests. He expressed concern that no political party is seriously raising issues related to land protection and Birsa Munda’s principles, leading to further marginalisation of the tribal community.
Appealing to members of society, he urged people to unite and work towards protecting jal, jungle and zameen, in line with Birsa Munda’s vision. He emphasised the need for continued struggle to ensure that Jharkhand moves forward on the right path of development.
Several office-bearers and members of the organisation were present at the event, including general secretary Abhay Bhut Kunwar, women’s wing vice-president Selina Lakra, Ranchi metropolitan president Shila Oraon, and others.
