Two persons were arrested for allegedly selling brown sugar and ganja in the Mufassil police station area of Pakur district, police said on Tuesday. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the illegal trade.
Addressing a press conference, Superintendent of Police Anudeep Singh said that police had received information about illegal sale of narcotics at a tea stall in Pushpanagar under Mufassil police station limits.
Acting swiftly, a raiding team was constituted under the leadership of SDPO Pakur Kumar Gaurav. The team, accompanied by a magistrate, conducted a raid at the location. On seeing the police, several people present at the spot attempted to flee.
Two individuals — Ansarul Sheikh, the owner of the tea stall, and Sadul Sheikh — were chased and apprehended by the police team.
During a search conducted in the presence of the magistrate, police recovered 12 packets of brown sugar (4.30 grams) from Ansarul Sheikh’s possession. Additionally, 9 packets of brown sugar (2.77 grams), 24 packets of ganja (50.44 grams), and ₹2,310 in cash were seized from his tea stall. From Sadul Sheikh, 2 packets of ganja (4.29 grams) were recovered.
During interrogation, Ansarul Sheikh reportedly confessed that narcotics and ganja were sourced from West Bengal and supplied to various local outlets. Police said Sadul Sheikh had come to the shop to purchase drugs.
A case has been registered at Mufassil police station (Case No. 73/2026, dated June 8) under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, 1985, including Sections 20(b)(II)(A), 21(d), and 22(d).
Both accused have been sent to judicial custody. Police said raids are ongoing to arrest another culprit linked to the case.
