The Health Department observed World Population Day with a district-level programme at the Sadar Hospital campus on Saturday, highlighting the importance of population stabilization, family planning and maternal and child health.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Ramesh Kumar inaugurated the programme by lighting a ceremonial lamp and said uncontrolled population growth poses a major challenge to development. He urged people to adopt small, planned families, stating that they contribute to better health, economic security and sustainable development. He also informed participants that the Health Department provides all permanent and temporary family-planning services free of cost.
Dr. Kumar said World Population Day serves to raise awareness not only about population issues but also about reproductive health, women’s empowerment, and maternal and child healthcare. He stressed that an informed and healthy population is the foundation of a prosperous society.
Earlier in the day, an awareness rally was flagged off from the Sadar Hospital campus by Dr. Ramesh Kumar and District Programme Coordinator Praveen Singh. Led by trainee ANMs, the rally spread messages promoting small families, safe motherhood and family planning.
Addressing the gathering, health officials emphasized the need to expand family-planning services to every household, improve access to quality healthcare and encourage greater public participation in population stabilization efforts.
Among those present were District TB Officer Dr. Sanchayan, District Leprosy Control Officer Dr. Manoj Gupta, Sadar Hospital Superintendent Dr. Sushma Verma, District RCH Officer Dr. K.K. Singh, District Epidemiologist Dr. Manish Shekhar, DPC Praveen Singh, DDM Pokhraj, VBD consultant Dr. Ganesh Yadav, health workers, trainee ANMs and local residents.
